According to this site, the ideas were being worked on in the 1950s. It says the picture (2nd one I posted) is a "a fully functioning flight test vehicle" built in 1979 by NASA.

A spin-off idea, the Canard Rotor/Wing, coudl also fit the AJACs as well.

By the by, when was the X-Wing designed. The more I look at the Ajax, the more I see a similarity.

The AJACs appears to be a more akin to a "Stopped-Rotor Aircraft" than a helicopter. The blades likely provide lift from a fix (non-rotating position).

I agree with that point! "Coaxial rotor " has another mechanics to the spindle/shaft.
And the " Tip jet" hotcycle simple transmission is differ fromi conventional turbo-shaft engine.

I consider that point more....

Cool and good point Yui! The blades do drupe, but i'm not sure if that would be the same for the AJAX. The rotos of the AJAX also act as venier's when in battroid mode, so the blades would actually have to be made of stiffer material. As for the mechanics around the spindle/shaft, I still need to work on the mechanics of that. From what I can tell so far, the blades might actually spin counter to one another. One set of blades spin one way, and the other set of blades spin the other...

Any chance of getting a translation on some of the stuff?
Also very cool seeing my Logan and Hover Tank 3D models being shown! If I ever to get to finishing my AJAX model, I hope they add it to the AJAX link, that would just be cool! I'll post what I have here on the AJAX in copter mode, I haven't taken the model any farther then that currently. Still need to figure out the jet mode from a mechanical point, and then battloid mode.
