This is an interesting thread. As everyone probably knew, in the original MOSPEADA the different divisions came from Mars and Jupiter. The source material I have also mentions colonies in the asteroid belts, and the fact that most of them have fought against each other at some time or another. The Legioss is a product of those conflicts.
It also says that the Invid are confined to Earth because their hives can only broadcast power to their ships until they reach upper orbit, that's it. It would explain why the humans could have a base as close as the moon that remained unmolested by them.
Of course, a lot of this is from hand-written notes and some of the first story treatments, so I don't know what level of "canonocity" it deserves.
