Roy Fokker and his death |
Lead | |
|
Ok, I am rewatching the Robotech sage, more posificly the Macross Sage and I have gotten to were Roy died. I am just wandering why he did not go to the
hospital? If he was that baddly injured, surely he would have noticed. That part just does not make sence to me.

Probably was in shock, didn't really think of what he should be doing . . . just needed to go visit Claudia.

In the novel Roy was indeed taken to the hospital, and after the doctor told him about Kramer being dead, he just got of got up and wandered off.

Oh dammit Kramer died in the novel?(it had been like 2 decades since i read it). I already casted a voice actor and had lines recorded for the Demo. LOL!!!
Anyway Roy probably KNEW he was gonna buy it and just wanted to spend his last moments with her not worrying or agonizing. Just a couple having idle conversation while she made his favorite pineapple salad. Death by Pineapple Salad! (it beats hospital food!) |

You know, you don't HAVE to go by the novel...
You could just have Kramer injured so badly (something that would take months to recover and be recertified for flight from, rather than the week(s) of Rick's injuries) that he was bypassed for command of Skull. The novel's aren't canon; not by real series standards, and not by HG's twisted ones - unless The Fabulous Yun Brothers have been drinking more of their own kool-aid again... The novels aren't canon - but that doesn't mean that they are unusable.

I consider them a lot more canon than comics. But my feelings on the whole SC retconning are fairly well known so I'll leave it at that.
I basicly ignore anything that contradicts the 83 Episodes of footage and the Sentinels DVD, I only use my memory of the novels to "fill in the blanks" and add background (but totally omitting the last novel "End of the circle"). Roy's death was not only dramatic in that someone who projected an aura of invincibility dies, but the way it affects Rick. Rick is suddenly thrust in way over his head with more responsibility as skull leader, not to mention re-evaluating the relationships in his life. It goes a long way to affecting his character development. Sucks, but at least in the SC movie (I just saw yesterday) the moment I heard Rhineheart speaking I shouted , "ROY!!!" lol! |

It's 85 episodes (84 if you don't count Dana's Story).
it's only 83 if you count the first 3 episodes of Macross as one, and they didn't air that way as Robotech AFAIK. Speaking of confusion, one of these times, look for the Robotech videos that shipped with toys, or the Toy Fair preview of Sentinels. The toy videos actually had conversations going on in battle between Roy and the Sterlings (with baby).... I wonder what was going through the minds of the voice actors and scriptwriters... To quote Whoopi Goldberg's character from Soapdish.... The guy was killed in an auto accident! I looked it up! He was driving in the Yukon, in a pink convertible, to visit his brother who's an ex-con named Frances, when a tractor trailer comes along and decapitates him. You know what that mean, it means he doesn't have a head. How am I suppose to write for a guy who doesn't have a head? He's got no lips, no vocal cords. What do you want me to do? (but totally omitting the last novel "End of the circle"). Don't omit 'em outta existence. Even RTSC borrows heavily from EoTC, so having some elements like the Karbarran fleet campaign against Haydon IV would be wonderful for any RT RPG Sentinel campaign post 3rd RT War. As for Kramer's fates, I choose the McKinney version. Seems a fitting end dying at the hands of a Quadrono like his boss, Lt. Cmmdr. Fokker. The bit about Fokker's soul flying off to the horizon with Kramer & Ol' Pop in some fancy afterlife fighters excerpt in the novel kinda touch me up deeply .... |
