This concerns the pre-production drawings for the Pegasus mecha found on the Robotech Extra DVDs. I will refer to the image by the # / # that appears in the upper right corner. It would appear that the mecha could have more variations than the RPG portrayed (which was more widely available than the single model to appear in the Novels).
What is your individual take(s) on the various pictures?
Are any of them a functionally better concept than the typical presentation found in the RPG and novels (I'd assume the Sentinels Comics also, but I do not have them)?
What do you think HG should do with these designs from the Sentinels? Should HG allow Palladium to use these designs in a future supplement?
Alternate Chariot Designs:
41/46 looks like the Pegasus Mecha from the RPG with another Chariot design. In comparison to the chariot shown in the
RPG:
-looks to be a medium sized "version" as it is bigger than the unit seen in the RPG, but not as big as 42/46.
-size of the tires makes me wonder what the land-vehicle configuration looks like, or who/what was intended to ride it. Maybe it is a 4wheel ATV perhaps instead of cycle?
42/46 looks like the Pegasus Mecha from the RPG pulling a bigger chariot than 41/46. The interesting thing someone
pointed out to me on first viewing the mecha, was that they think the Chariot might have a Robot Mode. This is because
of the (typical RT) Mecha Face that appears "hidden" in the Chariot mode located just above the connecting spars (below the "beak" of the
chariot and behind the left wing in the drawing).
I'm not sure what the vehicle mode 42/46 would use, maybe some type of hover vehicle, given the disproportionate design of the "wheels" to the
"body". That or the tires alter their volume depending on the mode.
Alternate Flyer Designs:
44/46 appears to be a new Pegasus design. Note that the "drone" for the mecha (in the RPG and Novels) appears
to now be a manned flier (view of the controls & seat). When detached it seems to take a bigger portion of the
internal systems with it than the Drone, unlike the 45/46 version it may not be as adversely affected.
45/46 has a similar approach as the 44/46 "drone", possibly manned (side profile view of the flier). The
cockpit appears to be enclosed. This might mean this model Pegasus is bigger than the other models to allow the pilot
to sit inside of it. Not sure if the Robot would be able to function with the detached flier given the size of the
cavity.
