I got a few details from Bandai Channel's website.
The central male character is Aruto Saotome, a Valkyrie pilot trainee. The heroine is Ranka Lee, an aspiring idol singer student. She adores the current top star of idol singing Nom Cyril. The Frontier Fleet is a 10,000,000 person-strong colonization effort, making for the center of the Milky Way galaxy. Only they're coming into contact with another force...hostile aliens, of course. More fragments of the Protoculture, or something else? |

You know, with names like those, I expect the first M:F/Ranma 1/2 crossovers to hit within hours of release......

Variable Fighter, Variable Pilot? "Does this Battroid make me look fat?" (Quoting Tim Wellman, a manga artist I know.)
PS: It is not worth making a new entry just to throw in this one promo picture, is it?

On a UN Spacy mission to a recently discovered planet, Saotome Aruto and Ranka Lee fall into an ancient protoculture spring becoming one person Saotome Ranka,
who turns into a girl or boy when splashed with water. In their search for a cure, they encounter others, a cat, a pig, a duck, who lose their will to fight
when Ranka sings.

I just finished watching the first episode a few times. Macross Frontier is visually AMAZING.
If this story is right, I'll will definitely be getting this. No one does it better. This is straight O.K. HG will have a lot of work to do if they want to compete with this. Note: Super Shadow Fighters strike a close similarity to the Armored-Super-VF-25s (VF-4 with FAST PACKS). Macross has Cyclone-type power armor! VFs have a Zentraedi Power Armor type interface! What?!

The MW webmaster just uploaded the MacF manga volume 1-3 at MW forum. Some guy even translated the darn thing!
Well, MacF gonna debuted in April soon. I'll keep my fingers crossed, with VF-17I (this time around cannon fodder material) & *gasp* transformable VB-6 Koenig Monster will appear too. Yeah, the deliciously upgraded SMS New Quaedlunn-Rau also slated to appear. My fav. mecha of all time! As a nod to APHOS in MacZero, the new enemy in MacF sported the same technorganic feel to it, & even having the same 'Protoculture'-symbol too. This time, these possible 'Protoculture'-related warmachines have a name, VAJRA (a Hindu God, I believed). It seems as SDFM & DYRL explored Zent mythos, Mac 7 delved into Supervision Army, MacZero tentatively touch on protoculture myth, MacF may finally reveal the true nature of Protoculture. |

Macross has Cyclone-type power armor! VFs have a Zentraedi Power Armor type interface! What?! Why not? Overtechnology have progressively advanced from 1999 - 2009 (SDFM) up to 2059 (MacF). The Quadlunn-Rau conversion to Valkyrie's technology produces VF-22S Sturmvogel II (Mac7) & possibility of Quaedlunn-rau's interface being integrated into VF-25 is logical as well. |

I'll give it this much, it looked ALOT nicer than Shadow Chronicles. However, the storyline felt as vapid as Shadow Chronicles and
Macross 7 combined. Plus, could someone please explain to me the logic of heading closer to the galactic core (which is a super-massive blackhole)
into areas that are more likely to have Red Giants instead of further out into our arm to find G-type stars with inhabitable planets?
I don't know why, but I have this sinking feeling Shadow Rising is going to be following the UES Ark Angel as it leads a colonization fleet to not only find Admiral Hunter but also to create a colony to hide from the Haydonites. |

I believe Macross Colonization Fleets are on a survey and colonization mission for the entire galaxy. If they are exploring the galaxy incrementally (moving farther out and setting up colonies with each progressive fleet) from Sol (toward the outskirts of the Milky Way), you would have to cross through the center of the galaxy. Solar systems with G-type stars like our sun aren't the only stellar systems that could support life. Red Giant stellar systems may be an option too. The odds of having first contact with a more advanced civilization is more likely if you move into the center of the galaxy since its older. Besides, it makes for a much quicker trip and allows you to remain in contact with your support base via FTL communication when your colonization fleet isn't exploring space on the other side of the galaxy. That's my take on it. |

In Macross 7, try to explain how the heck space-vamps suck 'spiritia' or UN Spacy wacky enough to give a prized Valkyrie to a rockstar to rub loose with .... Or in Macross Zero, try to explain how the heck stones can defy gravity (among other things, apparently) ..... Only Macross II & Macross Plus have a sound realitybites to 'em. As for Macross Frontier colonization fleet is heading, some fans extrapolated hat the region its heading too (the centre of Milky Way) may've been the heart of ancient Protoculture civilization, where Megaroad-01 colonisation fleet (Misa & Hikaru's assigned fleet, last seen from Flashback 2012) went missing .... Guess, maybe Kawamori trying to tie loose ends, or perhaps not ... |

I've watched first 3 episodes so far, and had mixed feelings.
The preview for episode 4 shows Ranka enrolling in the Miss Macross Frontier contest. I can just imagine what notes HG is taking: "Staaaaageliiiiights, Flaaaaashiiiiing, Just Feeeeliiiing Smaaashiiiing" That first battle in the city was pretty cool. The hyper-maneuvering skills of the alien vajra remind me of the delzag probe in Megazone23-Part2. I think their tributes to the original went over the top when they had the guy flying with his guardian/gerwalk clutching the girl, and then the arm getting shot off, and him struggling to pull her back into the cockpit during freefall. You know her big brother is just a redshirt, don't you? He just has that look of imminent mortality about him. Reminds me of that scene from the movie HotShots ("Yes, I can tell you the secret of the Vajra! I also know who assassinated JFK! Btw, I'm a little behind on my life insurance payments...") |

Oh yeah, and I don't like that transformation to battloid that uses the green electric bolts. To me, it's inconsistent with past transformations, and
it almost looks like the assembly's being held together by magnetism or something, during the transformation sequence.

Take a look at about 6:30 of episode 7.
Read the first few pages of "Proving Ground," which is apart of my fanfic. Great minds think alike, heh. |

Thanks for that URL, Cav. It makes watching Frontier so much more enjoyable than on Youtube....
I know I'm a gushing fanboy, but boy do I like this series. It's got all the good stuff from Macross Zero (animation) and none of the other crap. As much as it pains me to say this, so far, I could almost see this adapted into a RT sequel. The Varja could easily be some sort of Haydonite offshoot and it's got enough Macross Saga-ness to make the hardcore fanboys smile. ~Pap. |
