I've checked out the Palladium forums, and I've been seeing some fairly decent buzz surrounding the RPG book. A few of the folks rag on minute gaming details, which for me isn't a big problem since I don't play it anyway (I think the greatest crime I hear seems to be the utter lack of UEEF starships).

So anyway, I've been wondering, from a story standpoint (since that is what I look forward to) - does the RPG present anything compelling to make the book a must buy? Does it present a more complete or coherent view of the overall Pioneer mission, or the Expeditionary Force and its involvement in the Sentinels campaign? Does it give a decent explanation to any of the happenings in the Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles comics?

If memory serves me, I also heard a long time ago from Kevin Sambieda or someone that the book will focus on Southern Cross. Is this true? Or is it NewGen/Shadows centric?

The thing I keep hearing from the book are the ground vehicle stats and the infamous Condor. I also keep hearing about something called a "Silverback", what is that? A version of the Conbat? Seems the meat of the book is in this department, but really, what else is in those 300 pages??

Ah! This is the Silverback I presume? It's a nifty looking jeep, but didn't I also hear this was transformable? Maybe not...

I'm also trying to comprehend the place the Overlord has in the continuity. Who rode this sort of mecha? I thought the Regess already was making do with what she had in the animation.

And I'm also wondering about the Haydonites. Are they given a proper history, or is their race description filled with "mysterious origins" and stuff like that?

I'm MOST unhappy that EVERY gal dang device in the book is "Protoculture Powered this and Protoculture Powered that"...... Roll Eyes

*sigh* This may make Rabid happy, but not me....... Oh well..... that's more house rules I didn't want to make...... Frown

I'm just annoyed that ALL the infantry weapons are flower powered..... Doesn't make sense for all your infantry weapons to be flower powered when it makes your infantry instantly visible to the Invid..... - Panzerfraust

I can only guess that much of the RPG takes place in the NewGen time period, but does this mean everything was also protoculture-based prior to the arrival of the REF/UEEF in the Southern Cross period? When the Masters claimed mankind had a "rudimentary" knowledge of protoculture, what did this imply about our use of protoculture at the time?

Nope, and it does not look half bad, IMO. If it had not been, I would not have cared. Either way it is fine by me and as long as it makes halfway sence, I do not mind.

Yeah, I actually heard some good things about it on the Space Station Liberty show chatroom. Was talking to someone named Zerebrus or something. That's good to know... But I wonder what does it mean to the canon? Transforming cars? Wonder if that concept went into civilian use...

Ya, I could see it used in the civilian world like the Hummer is today. I could also see it used in rescue work as well. And it is Robotech, they have transforming motorcycles and planes, why not cars and it is not the first one if you look back at the old books, there was one there too.

That is very true. And with the presence of the ultimate power source (aka Protoculture) inside groceries, I suppose it may very well be possible for... well, civilian veritechs cars... Didn't the old RPG have this silly notion?

I do think that Protoculture was becoming wide-spread as a power source, but I am not sure that inevitably leads to "veritech" machines for civilian use. Consider the Masters, who relayed on PC, yet had no such machines.

Humans used protoculture in a very rudimentary fashion - so we didn't use it for say... cosmetic surgery or maybe even cloning (unlike the original Macross). I would assume that there were construction mecha, since nobody could rely on those lousy, lazy Zentraedi to rebuild cities. They're malcontent that way. But anyway, I suppose selling protoculture in a grocery does lead to the idea that maybe this is um... "low grade" protoculture?

You've gotta be kidding me.

From what I've heard, into a robotic Gorilla lookalike .... hence the name Silverback, but some fan on RT Palladium Board commented that the battloid mode seemed a crisscrossed between a Hargun & a Cyclone Power Armor. The battloid mode is useful for construction purpose, like buiding temp bridge fro Cyclone squads etc.

What can you expect, RT RPG gives us transformable ChariotBike & robotic horses, so a Robotech King Kong made some sense too .....

Yeah it is not the prettiest looking thing is it. I have to admit, I am not keen on the look of the Armored version in Buggy Mode. It looks like they some how added something from a Battlepod onto it. But then again, I do not have Prelude to the Shadow Chronicles, so I don't know if the image comes from that.
