It was adapted from a book trilogy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-5ZlZFh6xM Once you start watching it, you get hooked. This is one that really deserved to be re-made with modern CG fx. I heard Disney is going to be re-making it for 2009 release on the bigscreen. It strongly reminds me of the Robotech Invid Saga. Actually, if I were to re-make Tripods, I would include certain elements of the Invid Saga, like Earth Reclamation Forces, Mars Division, etc.

I remember reading The White Mountains in junior high, but I don't remember if I made it to the 3rd book. The last one I read was where they were, I think they were captured or something in some place and had to escape. The Pool of Fire? Something like that. edit: Now I remember. The City of Gold was that one. I must have only got as far as the 2nd book. OMG I've been on Youtube all day. I can't stop watching it.
