for legal reasons they can't look at fan edits? Not sure from where (maybe this forum) I recall reading somewhere that Khyron_Prime tried to show HG his edit but they refused?I just wanted to chime in on this.
that to me means they don't want to see it because it would be an insult to the makers, but not for legal reasons I think.
The reason companies don't look at unsolicited fan ideas is simple: if anything from the unsolicited idea / script / treatment ends up in the final product, the company could find itself being sued. If I sent a story to Harmony Gold outlining Mark Landry single-handedly defeating the Invid, while at the same time revealing himself as a reincarnated Zor and any of that made it into an official product, the thinking (on HGUSA's part) is that I can sue them for stealing my idea. Whether that suit would have merit or not (my treatment being derived from a copywrited work and all) isn't the problem; the problem is that the case could potentially have merit. Thus, to avoid any possible legal ramifications, HGUSA won't look at unsolicited scripts.
