I got back to Miss Ruby's okay. Tried out one of the disks you loaned me on my Emerson combo player/TV and it runs. The audio warbles a bit tho'. Very pronounced. Only saw a few minutes of it tonight, will see more tomorrow.

The weapon you were talking about in my car is called a "Senior-Fuzed Weapon", also known as the CBU-97. Each cluster unit can produce 40 projectiles.

No, we were discussing some of my RPG projects, and was trying to remember the device's name.
Hmmm... Is the "Futureweapons" web page for the Discovery Channel correct in that, in addition to the CBU usage, they are developing simular submunitions for the 155mm Excalibur artillery round family? One of their artistic renderings of the Excalibur has the round deploying a handful of sensor-fuzed munitions. I dunno- seems to me that Future Weapons show isn't that futuristic and not always about weapons. Demo and specialized engineering equipment aren't weapons in their own right but rather tools to neutralize ordnance or to shape an environmental situation to one's own benefit. That and the show's host strikes me as a toolbag spouting all sorts of halftruths and outright falsehoods.
So I rate Mail Call higher if only for the fact it has R. Lee Ermey and his strange fascination with gunning down watermelons. Mad Mike |

The state of US artillery these days are in a flux. Yes the days of the M198 howitzers are numbered and quite possibly the 105mm M119 but it's replacement is still a 155/39 gun. Yeah it uses a fuckton more lightweight alloys but talk to me in a couple years about long term useage and stress fractures.
There is absolutely no replacement for M109s- the A2 to the modern A6 again are still 39 cal barrels whereas other countries have opted to go longer with 45 or 52 cal lengths and bigger chambers so they can burn more powder (these days their solid type charges rather than bag type charges). Where I dictator in charge I'd make Uncle Sugar to a shootoff between the Brit AS90 and the Kraut PzH2000 and the winner sets up shop in the states with guns cranked out at Rock Island or Waterlivet and said SPH would replace every M109 in both the Big Army and Guard and have the Marines finally bring back their general support battalion with self propelled and MLRS as opposed to currently being all towed. I'd love to get it on DVD but I have two conventions in the next 12 days. Maybe I can get it cheap at RightStuf's booth at Acen....

Well, it wouldn't be all that good to visit this month.
I came down ill at Acen, so will be barely well enough to work by the time Thursday rolls around (when I go back). Not sure what my schedule will be like after that (outside chance of attending an SF con memorial day weekend). After Memorial Day would be best. I picked up a couple things for you on my trips. I also got a couple DVDs that I needed. DVDs I still need (mind checking used DVD places down there for me?): .hack // Legend of the Twilight #2 Big O #1, #4 Aura Battler Dunbine #12 One should always be wary of a scientist speaking out of his narrow field, or those invoking their name outside their fields. Since it's going to be that far off, I should just tell you, as I'm too proud of myself to surprise you with it now.
I created and printed some DVD jacket inserts for your Orguss DVDs. They're kind of basic but I think they do the job. ![]() Made four different covers, the Kei-and-Mimsy one above, one with Jabby, Mome, Kei and Mimsy, one with the Orguss and one with the Nikick.
