Well, saw the panel yesterday - nothing new at all really. But what I still amazes me is the spin that's still going on after all of these years. Maybe it shouldn't amaze me, I don't know.

Basically, Shadow Rising is still in limbo. Or at least that's what I got from the all of the vague answers. Honestly, I've been reading so much between the lines at these con panels for years, I filter out the spin in my head so it ends up hard for me decipher what I actually hear and what's meant to be said. While they didn't use the word "Hiatus" (because, you know, that term is such and industry term), hints were dropped all throughout that it actually was:

-Tommy showed the trailer again, the exact same one from last year that had all recycled footage from the first movie, and more or less said that it was made to gather interest from liscensing partners.
-When someone asked who's writing the movie, Tommy said that Ford Riley was originally in talks but now that WB is producing a live action movie, they're exploring other options. I'm sure Ford would appreciate that statement.
-When someone asked if the sequel would be a movie or a series, Tommy said originally it was going to be an OVA, but now they're exploring other options.
-The only new animation shown was a re-rendered scene of RSC where they used cel shading on an alpha. I know this was also done at least 6 months ago.

Not knowing if it'll be a movie or a series, still working on finding a writer, no new animation, and what I mentioned earlier about the voice actors not having recorded any lines of dialogue yet tell me that yes, Shadow Rising is on hiatus. I was amused when someone asked if we'd find out about Rick Hunter in the next movie and Tommy compared it to Lost, where if they got off the island, the show would be over. Only thing is.... they're off the island and the show is contracted for two more seasons.

As far as the live action movie, Tommy did confirm that it would be a re-imagining and they'd be bumping up the timeline so that the fortress doesn't crash in 1999. Because, you know, that's the past.

Another thing I found amusing is that they're still bringing up Robotech 3000, and how bad it was and how they're really doing what the fans want. They even found motion capture footage of RT3000 from the late 90's to show followed by a statement "See? Who here thinks of Robotech when they see that??" They also mention that RT3000 was the perfect example as to why fans don't want to see a sequel that takes place years after the original. All I could think was "yeah, because that NEVER worked for Macross..."
